#BibleStudy Comments on Questions on Acts 26 on 9/8

My Sunday school class/Life Group is studying the book of Acts. I posted these questions this Monday and encouraged you to jot your thoughts down.

This is Wednesday. This post consists of some comments from the class discussion.

If you’d like a PDF file of the questions, email me at crd.author@gmail.com.

There is a timeline of Paul's life at the end of the post.

Ch 26

Vv 1-32
This entire chapter is Paul’s statement to Agrippa.
Vv 9-11 describes what?
  • The beginning of Paul's journey to become a Christian.
  • His compulsion to kill Jewish converts to Christianity.
  • He thought he was doing the right thing.
Vv12-18 is the last account in Acts of Paul’s conversion. Compare it to the original and to Paul’s previous versions.
In this chapter...
  • A bright light.
  • Sauls falls to the ground.
  • Other travelers 1) heard a voice or sound, 2) did not see anyone speaking, 3) took Saul to Damascus after the event, 4) Leave him at Ananias's house and are never heard from again.
In Ch 22...
  • Traveler's heard a voice but did not understand it.
Other thouhts
  • God spoke first to Saul, then Ananias
  • Saul's understanding of Christianity moves from a Pharisitical view (The Law/Scripture) to a Relational view (Ananias)
In vv19-23, Paul does what?
  • Talks about his conversion.
  • He's witnessing to Agrippa.
  • Explains why he was arrested.
  • This parallels some of what happens to Jesus in John 10.
What does Festus mean by/with his interruption of Paul in v24?

The Message Bible reads like this

That was too much for Festus. He interrupted with a shout: “Paul, you’re crazy! You’ve read too many books, spent too much time staring off into space! Get a grip on yourself, get back in the real world!

  • Festus is under conviction.
  • Education and Scripture led him to mania.

We got this far this week.

Here's a link to a great Timeline of the Apostle Paul. I recommend bookmarking it.
