#NEWTESTAMENT CHANGE IN YOUR CHURCH - Answers and commentary

There are thousands of changes recorded in the Bible, including

  • The universe changed "in the beginning."
  • Perfection changed when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit.
  • Moses changed from a frightened criminal on the run to a great leader with whom God spoke face to face.
  • Rahab, a prostitute, changed her allegiance and became a member of Jesus' earthly lineage.
  • Paul changed from a persecutor of Christians to the most prolific writer in the New Testament.

Change is part of life.

How you react to change impacts not only you but also your family, your friends, your co-workers... in fact pretty much all who come in contact with you.

After the passage from Mark [2:18-2 -New International Version (NIV)], there's a green-colored answer sheet for you today. It's a series of interpretations of short passages of Scripture followed by applications (Action Steps) on how to manage change in your church.

Right-click on the answer sheet and download it if you want to. Whether you print it or not, check your answers with those in the document below.

It's back to Timeless Truths next Thursday and Expressions of Faith next Friday. EoF will launch a series of posts from James.

Jesus Questioned About Fasting

18 Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, “How is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?”
19 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them. 20 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day they will fast.
21 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. 22 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.”

Of all human institutions, the church should demonstrate three virtues.

1. Changelessness.

  • The message of the church today must be the same as it was in the church of the first century. Here's Paul's "take" from what is known as the Romans Road to Salvation.

2. Willingness to change

  • As technology changes, if the church refuses to embrace aspects of that way of life, it will fade into the abyss of relatability. Many churches today use social media, streaming, and podcasts routinely.
  • Members of the younger cohorts of today's society are reluctant to "do church" as their parents and grandparents did. Churches that refuse to change their method of delivery of the Gospel will find their pews empty.

3. The wisdom to know when to do both of the above while expressing the God's lovingkindness in their changed lives.
