#BibleLesson. Timeless Truths – Return to Spiritual Formation
10 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.
Philippians 3:10-11
Paul is not Speaking of knowing as knowledge, but knowing on a personal, intimate level.
- Much of what we know about faith is based on what we have experienced, not what we've read.
- Where did Paul go to know Christ?
- Who did he observe?
STEVEN – Acts 7:34-8:11 - faith lived out in the extreme.
- Paul/Saul learns what is worth living for.
- Saul sees what it means to forgive.
- Saul learned what dying is all about.
All this happened to Saul from a distance. It is when Saul’s life begins to change.
ANANIAS – Acts 9:10-19 – relationship lived out; the beginning of faith.
- Paul sees an example appearing and obeying God.
- Paul seas an example of grace and acceptance. (v.17)
- Paul sees the healing power of Jesus.
BARNABAS – Acts 9-11 - faith demonstrated for new believers to help the newbies grow.
- Intentionality and initiative. Barnabas brings Paul into ministry, especially at Antioch. Paul sees a sense of faith and trust in how Barnabas treats him.
WAYS THIS FITS IN CHURCH LIFE
- Adopt someone to be their family or supporters.
- Join a ministry out of your age group.
- Join a group of new believers.
- Become a "how do I" person and respond when asked.
You need to be part of an environment
where mature believers engage new believers in ways
that help them become mature as well
