⁹ Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead. ¹⁰ Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “He’s alive!”

Acts 20:9-10

Years ago, media started using the term “15-minutes of fame” to describe often questionable actions by people desiring to be a celebrity.

• I doubt Eutychus planned on getting his 15-minutes by falling asleep and face-planting at the end of a three-story drop.

Paul isn’t concerned with fame, he is part of a miracle that happens.

• In fact, he performs an action similar to what Peter does with Tabitha in Acts 9:40.

They brought the boy in alive and were greatly comforted.

What’s the takeaway here?

• Don’t sit it a window in a room full of lantern oil smoke on the third floor of a poorly ventilated home while a preacher preaches past midnight.
• Not the number one answer.

• Don’t worry about dying if you have a famous missionary/evangelist nearby.
• Hardly.

Some teaching points I draw from Scripture are immediately clear.

• Not in this case.
• You have to look beyond the obvious.

God is faithful to His followers.

• That’s my takeaway.

Eutychus was a follower of Christ. He fell asleep. He fell.

• No sin committed. 
• No evil intent.

Careless?

• Perhaps, but God used this event to “greatly comfort” Christians living in a pagan city.
• This miracle was not for the masses as some are.
• This miracle was to “greatly comfort’ believers.

When you’re feeling anxious or upset, look around.

• What/Who is present to greatly comfort you?

Then again, you just might be Eutychus, 

the vehicle God uses to comfort others!
