#BibleLesson. Timeless Truths – In the Meantime

This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:

2 In the last days

the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established
    as the highest of the mountains;
it will be exalted above the hills,
and all nations will stream to it.

3 Many peoples will come and say,

“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the temple of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
so that we may walk in his paths.”
The law will go out from Zion,
the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 He will judge between the nations
and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
nor will they train for war anymore.

5 Come, descendants of Jacob,
let us walk in the light of the Lord.

The Day of the Lord

6 You, Lord, have abandoned your people,
    the descendants of Jacob.
They are full of superstitions from the East;
they practice divination like the Philistines
    and embrace pagan customs.

Isaiah 2:1-6

Isaiah describes Messiah in terms of the Prince of peace.

  • He writes about the hope of what is to come.
  • It's written to the people in exile.

The word peace does not appear in this passage.

1.  V. 2. Peace is for everyone

  • Peace is not for anyone to hold onto.
  • Sometimes we view peace as a Christmas present with our name personalizing it. Others don’t get peace in this view.

2.  V. 3. Peace is taught and learned

  • “He will teach us his ways” and you will teach our children by your words and actions.
  • Do you teach peace or something else?

3.  V4. Peace brings a change in the economy.

  • Swords and Spears were very costly in the Isaiah’s time period.
  • Instead of investing in war resources now are used for food and flocks for people.

4.  V3. Peace brings a change in relationship.

  • Peace causes changes in the way you interact with others.
  • Peace causes big changes in your attitude and action.

5.  V5. Peace begins with you

  • Verse 5 implies that what you are to do until Jesus comes is to live in the Light.
  • Peace is first and foremost your responsibility.
