Expressions of Faith. Hebrews Ch 6. Falling Away

It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss, they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.
 Hebrews 6:4-6

Falling Away

The footnotes on this in my study Bible offer three possible explanations for this passage.

Christians actually lose their salvation. Something we’d rather not think about, but it is possible if someone falls away.
Hypothetical explanation warning perpetually immature Christians. They must progress or they will fall away.
Professing Christian who abandon their faith but maintain a Christian façade. Abandon is synonymous with falling away.

None of these options makes much sense to practicing Christians.
All of these options are methods Satan employs to get Christians to fall away.

Gut check time!
  1. Not close to God?
  2. Been a baby Christian for years?
  3. Good façade but empty inside?

If you fall into any of those categories,
repent
or you will fall away!
