#Bible Thoughts on Study Questions from Acts Ch 17 on 5/5
My Sunday school class/Life Group is studying the book of Acts. I posted these questions this Monday and encouraged you to jot your thoughts down.
This is Wednesday. This post consists of some comments from the class discussion.
If you’d like a PDF file of the questions, email me at crd.author@gmail.com.
There is a timeline of Paul's life at the end of the post.

Ch 17
Vv 1-9
Where is Thessalonica?
What’s different about it from Philippi?
What’s Paul’s approach here?
- In Macedonia.
- This is a validation of Paul's vision in Ch 16:6-10
What’s different about it from Philippi?
- They have enough Jewish males to have a Synagogue.
- They have to rent a mob to create problems for Paul and Silas.
What’s Paul’s approach here?
- The regular visit to the Synagogue first, and for three weeks in a row!
- However, this time there is give-and-take between Paul at the attendees.
What do we learn about the new believers that makes it clear they are not all Jews?
How did the non-Jews learn Paul’s message?
- Some are God-fearing Greeks.
- Some were wives of leading men in the city.
How did the non-Jews learn Paul’s message?
- Some were at the Synagogue.
- Others heard by word of mouth.
How much of the accusation in vv6-7 is true?
- This argument in this area of the Roman Empire probably was of little importance to Caesar.
- Those bringing charges were focused on a political king and kingdom, not a spiritual kingdom. The misunderstanding of this difference is common throughout Acts.
Vv 10-15
Comment on the Bereans compared to the Thessalonians.
- They were open-minded and studied Scripture.
While Paul might not have been happy with the Thessalonian Jews, why would he understand them?
He'd been just like them.
Bonus comments
He'd been just like them.
Bonus comments
- God will take your place of trial or failure and use it in your ministry if you allow Him to work through you.
- Peter and Paul have the same personality: "I know I'm right," and "I've changed my view from what it was."
Here's a link to a great Timeline of the Apostle Paul. I recommend bookmarking it.
We got this far this week.
