#Bible Timeless Truths. Calling Home Series - Part 4 "What are You Going to Do with What You’ve Got?"

Last week was part four of this series.
The next two weeks continue the focus on the Lord's Prayer, Jesus' description of the way we all need to "call home" to our Father. The key verse each week is highlighted in the passage below.

I encourage you to read the previous posts in this series. Scroll down on this page and you'll find them all.

Prayer
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,[a]
but deliver us from the evil one.[b]’

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 6:5-14

Two Characteristics of Bread

1 . SIMPLE – easy to understand
2 . UNIVERSAL – found everywhere

Two Ways to Look at this part of the Prayer:

1. Physical
  • Food and other needs in our physical lives.
  • Most Americans have this at some level.

2. Spiritual
  • This is a request for Spiritual strength to do God’s will.
  • God designed your whole life to be a part of worship.

LESSONS FROM THE LOAF...

l. Our PROVISION is from the FATHER
  • The Bible is clear. The Father provides for Physical and Spiritual NEEDS.

Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has. fruit with seed on it .... I give every green plant for food.” Genesis 1:29-30
  • You have the right to “ask God” because of your relationship with Him.

“By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground since from it you were taken.” Genesis 3: 19

The Lord made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them, Genesis 3:21

2. God wants to be FIRST in your LIFE.

“But seek first the kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33

3. DEPENDENCE is learnedin the DESERT.
  • This is a reminder of manna.

“In the desert, the whole community grumbled .... you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.” Exodus 16:2-3

4. Your NEED is DAILY.
  • Don’t take The Supplier for granted!

“Give us today” Matthew 6: 11
  • Why would you want to try to get by without “daily bread?”

 5. Our PORTIONS are DIFFERENT.
  • If you’re not doing anything with what you’ve got, you can’t expect God to give you more!

“To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability.”Matthew 25: 15
  • Don’t count on much from God unless your relationship with Him is right.

 6. You are WHAT you EAT.

“Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 4:4
  • Part of the bread is empowering for service.
  • Another part of your daily bread is to spend time in God’s Word.
  • Sometimes, you try to fill up on Sunday and not collect any manna during the week.

A Prayer
Father, let the life of Your resurrected Son, my Lord, the risen Christ, become my life today!

Thanks to Dr. Keith Newman for the primary teachings in this series.
