#Bible #Study Expressions of Faith. Acts 21. Mnason
16 Some of the disciples from Caesarea accompanied us and brought us to the home of Mnason, where we were to stay. He was a man from Cyprus and one of the early disciples.
Acts 21:16
The next bullets are all I could find about Mnason that’s not in the above verse, and much of what’s there is above, too.
- “A friend of Paul mentioned only in Acts 21:16. Three facts about him are known.
- First, he was a Cypriot like Barnabas, and probably. a Jew, though bearing a common Greek name.
- Second, he was “an early disciple,” converted perhaps at Pentecost or soon afterward. In its context, this description may imply exemplary fidelity.
- Third, he was hospitable, welcoming Paul and his Hellenistic companions, including Luke, to his house at Jerusalem.” https://www.biblicaltraining.org/library/mnason
Mnason’s not the only person in the Bible without an arm’s length list of credentials.
Nevertheless, he does seem an odd choice for a book that recommends you spend a week on each reading.
What’s to be gleaned from his inclusion.
- Common people abound.
- “God must love the common man, He made so many of them.”- Abraham Lincoln, although that’s not unanimous.
- There’s nothing wrong with being a common person…
- IF you follow Christ and demonstrate hospitality to others.
My mother was a Mnanson. Even when in the depths of dementia, more often than not, she asked each visitor what she could get them to eat.
Here’s a recommendation.
Rather than seeking fame, seek to serve others.
If that sounds familiar, it should. Jesus said it in Mark 9:35.
He sat down, and called the twelve; and he said to them, "If any man wants to be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all."(WEB)
Find a place to serve this week, and serve...
even if no one who knows you knows about it.
