#Bible Timeless Truths. Prepare for Now

20 Now in a large house there are not only [b]vessels and objects of gold and silver, but also vessels and objects of wood and of earthenware, and some are for honorable (noble, good) use and some for dishonorable (ignoble, common). 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things [which are dishonorable—disobedient, sinful], he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified [set apart for a special purpose and], useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.
2 Timothy 2:20-21 (AMP)

13 So prepare your minds for action, be completely sober [in spirit—steadfast, self-disciplined, spiritually and morally alert], fix your hope completely on the grace [of God] that is coming to you when Jesus Christ is revealed.
1 Peter 1:13 (AMP)

We all do many preparations in our lives.

Prepare in the Old Testament usually referred to ritual sacrifices. There is much detail on "how to" do these.

Prepare in the New Testament is for you as an individual.

2nd Timothy

  • Prepare comes from the word for "fitness." Olympians train for years, BUT they also must perform
  • Almost all of us are not gold or silver, but rather wood and clay.

1 Peter

  • Peter's audience was small, loosely organized churches without pastoral leadership or staff.
  • We need to be prepared so Christ can be revealed through us.
  • The word use for prepare is only used in this place in the Bible.
  • This word refers to how a ruler prepared (girded up) his robes for riding a horse.
  • "Prepare" by ridding your mind of extra stuff!

Old Testament

  • We still have offerings and sacrifices.
  • It's critical not to lose sight of WHY you do what you do.
  • We need to live IN what we are doing not just "holding on" until a new leader emerges.

2nd Timothy

  • You need to be fit for service with or without needing leadership.
  • You must choose to be a positive influence.

The word prepare is rarely used of God for us.
God creates things.

If you gird up yourself and get on the horse, God will create in you right now something new.

The question isn't, "Where will God use me?"
The question is, "Will I get up and get used?"

You need to prepare...
...but not only prepare.
You need to live the moment but not stay in the moment.

You are prepared now and here.
You are a prepared instrument.

Your prayer should be to be fit for noble purposes so God can create something in your life TODAY!
