#BibleStudy. Expressions of Faith. Acts Ch 12. Eaten by Worms
21 On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. 22 They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” 23 Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.
Acts 12:21-23
King Herod was not a nice person.
The first six verses of Chapter 12 describe Peter’s imprisonment by the king.
- He assigns four elite teams of soldiers to guard Peter.
- Every quatrain mastered techniques to defeat at least ten times their number.
In verses 7 through 18, an angel leads Peter to freedom.
Herod
- Orders the execution of all sixteen soldiers.
- Then he goes on a vacation.
I told you Herod was not a nice person.
In the verses immediately preceding today’s passage, Herod “negotiates” a peace treaty with Tyre and Sidon.
- The king gives a celebratory speech.
- After accepting heretical praise, God strikes Herod with an infestation of worms.
While Herod is serving as a worm smorgasbord, verse 24 describes the effects of his efforts to derail the spread of the Gospel.
24 But the word of God continued to spread and flourish.
- What better testimony to God’s power than that?
How are you helping the Word of God to spread and flourish?
