Miracle #5 – Feeding 5000 People – Mark 6:30-44
V6:40 reminds us of Moses doing what? When? (Ex 20; Num 11)
- When his father-in-law advised him to divide the Hebrews into groups and appoint judges for each group.
- When he was explaining how to collect and use manna.
How does v41 relate to the Last Supper?
- He blesses the food at the last supper.
Why does Mark describe “pieces” as BROKEN?
- Jesus’ body was broken for us.
- The bread was more like hard biscuits. Breaking them was the easiest way to divide them.
In this passage, the word for “men” refers to males only. How do the other Gospels describe the crowd?
- MARK. About 5000 men.
- LUKE. About 5000 men.
- JOHN. 5000 men.
- MATTHEW. 5000 men + women and children. His original audience was the Jews. This would have been important to show how Jesus was interpreting Jewish Law.
BONUS THOUGHT:
What stands out to you as you look back on the five studies so far?
- Jesus’s compassion to those who need help.
- The crowds are amazed as are the disciples.
- Jesus’s awareness of the needs of the crowds as well as individuals.
- How did people find out about events so quickly when there was only person-to-person in-person communication?
- The disciples were aware of the needs of the 5000.
