Thoughts on Questions on Hebrews Ch 12 from 4/29

HEBREWS STUDY QUESTIONS

My Sunday School Life Group is studying Hebrews. Every Monday, I post questions that were discussed the day before in Sunday School. I invite you to ponder/think about them and jot down your thoughts.

On Wednesdays, I post some of the ideas that came up in the Life Group's discussion for you to consider and compare with your thoughts.

This is some of the discussion on the questions posted on Monday.

Chapter 12
Vv 14-29

Do you agree with v21? Check Deuteronomy 9:19
Yes. This was unanimous.

What synonyms/names are given for heaven? Comments?
City of the Living God.
Heavenly Jerusalem.
Church of the First Born.
Where thousands of angels celebrate.
City of Mount Zion. Mount is symbolic of eternity. Zion refers to the polity (specific form of church government) of heavenhttps://www.collinsdictionary.com/us/dictionary/english/polity

Somewhere around here, we stopped to gather around a class member who was in agonizing pain and has been for some time. Doctors have no diagnosis. Your prayers for this man and his doctors are appreciated.

Who is in heaven? Make a list. Why is each one significant?

Black print is who. Red is what the who word means if it's after the black. The last two red lines are general whys. "Whole bunch" after angels refers to the number of them. “Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands”
(Revelation 5:11).

The last sentence should read "As long as you believe, you will be there."

What “word” does the blood of Abel speak? How? Why?
Jesus' sacrifice. Christ's blood makes us innocent.
Blood cried out for judgment, The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground. Genesis 4:10. God is speaking to Cain.

Vv25-27 describe something besides heaven. What? Why?
The last judgment. Can be active or passive, but both are perilous.
The penalty for rejecting God's offer of salvation.
Think twice. Pay attention. Choose wisely. God follows through on His Word.

What is the acceptable way to worship God?
With gratitude
With repentance.
Reverently.
With Godly fear and awe.
Through praise and thanks.
See the Lord's Prayer. Matthew 6:9-13

V29. Awful or Awesome? Explain
28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,
29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”
This depends on what side of the worship God/follow God fence you're on.
This description is not to be taken lightly.
