Expressions of Faith. Hebrews Ch 10. Insanity?

Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool. For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.”
And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.
 Hebrews 10:11-18

Insanity?

A saying attributed to Albert Einstein among others is

Verse 11 sounds like it fits that definition.

However, this passage isn’t talking about insanity. It’s referring to God’s Law.

In Old Testament times, sacrificing the best, closest-to-perfect animals was required for the atonement for sin.

High Priest after High Priest performed the Levitical rituals to remove the stain of sin from the lives of the Jews.

Every time the result was the same.
It was a temporary fix.

Animal sacrifices covered past sins.
They did nothing to reduce or remove the desire to sin.

  • Christ’s death on the cross was the ultimate sacrifice.
  • Tearing of the veil covering the entrance of the Holy of Holies in the Temple allowed direct access to God.
These two events combined to begin a change. The need for the unending ritual of animal sacrifice ended.

The outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost brought the fulfillment of verses 16-18.

If you are caught in the déjà vu, “Groundhog Day” cycle of repeated sin, make a sane decision.
Ask the Holy Spirit to
“put [God’s] laws in [my] heart, and… write them on [my] mind.”
