But only the high priest entered the inner room, and that only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.

Sins of Ignorance

In the time before Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was the source of spiritual blessing and power from God for specific situations. [See Judges 14:6, 19 & 15:14 Samson. 1 Samuel 10:10 & 11:16 Saul & 16:13 David.]

The Law was the only guide the Hebrews had for defining sin.

Even the High Priest could not comprehend the full scope of the Old Testament Law.

Once each year, the High Priest entered the Holy of Holies to sacrifice so blood would cover all Israel’s sins of ignorance.

Today, there is no need to wait a year or have anyone sacrifice to cover your sin.

The Holy Spirit convicts our hearts.

We know we’ve sinned.

“Ignorance of the Law” really is no excuse.
